This is a romantic story. Count Stanislav Potocki, one of the richest magnates, fell in love with a beautiful Greek girl, Sofia. The world had not seen such a beauty. Count Potocki named the park Sofievka - in honour of his wife Sofia. The place was meant to remind the countess of her native parts - Greece. Before 1796, a bare hill was where Sofievka is now located. What a geat talent of the craftsmen-serfs who had created an amazingly beautiful, open-air museum combining in its exposition nature and the arts.

The park was constructed by six years. The inauguration ceremony took place in May 1802 on Sofia's Potocki birthday. Sofievka is almost 200 years old now. The park's area occupies 160 hectares. Nowdays Sofievka is open to everybody who wants to remain with nature in private, who know how to look and to listen. It is always charming, no matter what season!...
